Instructions to Authors

General Instructions

Glasnik Šumarskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Banjoj Luci (Bulletin of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Banja Luka) is a scientific journal published by the Faculty of Forestry in Banja Luka, covering all aspects of forestry science and related fields: forestry, landscape architecture, hunting, wood processing, ecology, biodiversity, nature conservation, etc. It has been published since 2004, and until 2018 it was published twice a year, while since 2018 it has been published once a year. The journal publishes original scientific articles, preliminary communications, review papers, as well as professional articles. Articles prepared according to these instructions should be sent to the Editorial Office email: glasnik@sf.unibl.org. Only unpublished papers and papers that have not been submitted for publication in another journal can be accepted for publication. Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two relevant reviewers. Authors will in principle be notified about the acceptance, rejection, or necessary corrections of the manuscript within a maximum of two months after submission. Manuscripts that need to be corrected are returned to the first author, who should revise the manuscript in accordance with the suggestions of the editors, reviewers, and proofreaders. The final decision on accepting a manuscript for publication in Journal is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Manuscript Preparation

Papers are written in Serbian (with Serbian abstract and English summary) or English (with English abstract and Serbian summary). We advise authors to have their English texts proofread before submission. Manuscripts that do not meet the standard of correct language will be returned to the author for revision before scientific review. Journal provides proofreading of texts in Serbian. All titles and legends of figures and tables are given in both languages (Serbian and English or vice versa). Manuscripts are submitted in a single text file (prepared in MS Word). The text should be in Times New Roman font, size 12 pt, with 2.0 line spacing, all margins of 2.5 cm, numbered pages and text lines. Use footnotes only exceptionally to present some general information. Tables and figures, in addition to being in the text, should also be submitted as separate files. The latest issue of Journal should always be consulted as a guide for text format and style. Current instructions for authors are also available on the Journal’s website at https://glasnik.sf.unibl.org/index.php/gsfbl/instructionsToAuthors.

Manuscript Structure

Title Page

The title page should contain a concise and informative title, full names of authors, their affiliations, addresses and ORCID numbers, and the corresponding author's email address. It is also necessary to provide a short title (up to 75 characters with spaces) that will be used in the header of the printed article.

Abstract

An abstract (100-250 words, without references) should be submitted with each article. The abstract should contain a brief description of the background of the problem, research objectives and methods, and an overview of the most important results and conclusions.

Keywords

Should contain five to ten words (in both Serbian and English), which would be useful when searching databases, and are not already contained in the title.

Main Text

Three levels of subheadings are possible. The standard order of chapters is Introduction–Materials and Methods–Results–Discussion–Conclusion, but variations on this structure are permitted in accordance with the form and content of the manuscript. Headings and subheadings should be numbered and structured according to the decimal system (e.g., 1., 1.1, 1.2.1).

Acknowledgments

At this point, brief thanks can be given for assistance received from colleagues, institutions, or grants.

Summary

Manuscripts written in Serbian are accompanied by a summary in English (and vice versa). The summary is more detailed than the abstract, up to one-tenth the length of the main text, structured like the main text, contains selected literature references and references to figures and tables.

Appendices and Electronic Supplements

Items that need to be in the printed version of the article but would disrupt the logical flow of presentation if placed in the main text should be placed in an Appendix.

Large tables, maps, raw data, extra photographs, etc., can be published online as Electronic Supplements. This material will not be in the printed version of the article but will be available on the Journal’s website.

Tables and Figures

Each table, figure, appendix, and electronic supplement must have a legend and be mentioned in the text (Figure x, Table y, Appendix z, Electronic Supplement i). Elements of each of these categories are numbered successively with Arabic numerals, following the order of their first appearance in the text.

The legend should contain enough information for the table or figure to be understandable without consulting the text. The first sentence of the legend should represent a brief title of the table or figure. Tables should be sent as separate files in Microsoft Excel format, while acceptable formats for vector graphics (diagrams, illustrations, etc.) are .eps or .pdf. Raster images should be submitted in the size they should be printed, preferably in .tiff format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
